Pocket Beagles - A Very Fun Portrait!

Posted by Trae Mundt on

Portrait Painting of Poppy, Walnut, and Gary pocket beagles. Painted with Acrylic paints on cradled panel by Trae Mundt.

I got a text from my husband's co-worker. He saw the portrait I painted of our Calico Kitty and was interested in learning about commissioning me to paint his beloved pocket beagles.

He sent me reference photos. We discussed the details.

Then the fun began!

I had never heard of pocket beagles. I grew up with Winthropp, our family beagle. I learned that pocket beagles measure 7 to 12 inches tall and weigh between 6 and 15 pounds. They are about the size of domestic cats.

I asked my client to share a story about these beagles. He said he has to walk them at night. If he walks them in the day, women literally stop their cars in the middle of the road and get out of their cars to gush over them!

Now, that's quite a scene!! 😊 🐶🐶🐶

I took pictures as I painted. It's always fun to see how the painting develops. Here's a video of my process. Turn up the volume!

How do you like this painting? Did you enjoy the video? Please leave your comments below. I love hearing from you!
